The work of a GFS Aircraft Engineer is interesting, challenging and multi-faceted. As an Aircraft Engineer in the GFS, you will not only be an aircraft maintenance engineer, but also a technical service engineer, an instructor, a man-manager and an administrator. Your work will also bring you into contact with both local and overseas agents, suppliers and manufacturers of aircraft components.

Aircraft Engineer Wings Badge
Aircraft Engineer Wings Badge will be awarded to an Aircraft Engineer who has achieved the qualification of a Civil Aviation Department licensed aircraft engineer. The gear between the wings represents that the Engineering Section plays a fundamental role in ensuring that the aircraft and helicopter fleet is maintained at their best serviceability at all times.

To join the GFS as an Aircraft Engineer, one should

(a)   hold a valid Hong Kong Aircraft Maintenance Licence;
(b)   possess 5 years relevant post-qualification experience in a supervisory position of the employment stream;
(c)  meet the language proficiency requirements of Level 2 Note or above in English Language in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination or the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE), or equivalent; and be able to communicate in Chinese;
(d)   be amenable to discipline and willing to work shifts; and
(e)   be a permanent resident of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
 
Note : For civil service appointment purpose, ‘Grade E’ in English Language (Syllabus B) in the HKCEE before 2007 are accepted administratively as comparable to ‘Level 2’ in English Language in the 2007 HKCEE and henceforth.

Training

Training for an Aircraft Engineer in the GFS includes aircraft type training on the GFS fleet – fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters – locally and overseas. There will also be detachments to other sections within the GFS to broaden their knowledge of the GFS operations.
