To join the GFS as an Aircraft Technician, one should
||have a Certificate from a Hong Kong polytechnic / polytechnic university, or Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education / technical college / technical institute in aircraft maintenance or Engineering discipline, or equivalent; or
||have completed a related approved technician apprenticeship, or
||possess the required knowledge in the appropriate or related trades;
||have met the language proficiency requirements of Level 2Noteor above in English Language in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination or the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE), or equivalent; and be able to communicate in Chinese;
||be amenable to discipline and willing to work shifts; and
||be a permanent resident of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
||For civil service appointment purpose, ‘Grade E’ in English Language (Syllabus B) in the HKCEE before 2007 is accepted administratively as comparable to ‘Level 2’ in English Language in the 2007 HKCEE and henceforth.

An Aircraft Technician will be provided with training, both classroom lectures and practical on-the-job training, on general aircraft maintenance in relation to the GFS operations and aircraft type-specific training. There are also training opportunities for suitable technicians to obtain the Hong Kong Aircraft Maintenance Licence for their career advancement.
