21-50-00  COOLING Back

A. System Function

The cooling system supplies cool air to the aircraft air-conditioning system during operation of the engines. The cool air is used to adjust the temperature in the flight compartment and the cabin during flight and on the ground.

B. System Components

The primary components of the system are the:
  • Heat exchanger
  • Cold Air Units (CAU)
  • Water injectors
  • Cooling air inlet-ducts
  • Cooling air outlet-ducts
  • Ram air duct
C. System Operation (Ref. Fig. 1)

The compression system supplies bleed air from the engines to the heat exchangers. The heat exchangers and the CAU remove the heat from the air and supply the distribution system with cool air. The inlet ducts supply the cooling air through the heat exchangers and the CAU. The right inlet through the ram air to the distribution system (Ref. 21-20-00) through the ram air duct. The cooling air outlet-ducts remove the cooling air from the system.
