A. System Function

The speech communications system transmits and receives voice communications from ground stations and other aircraft.

B. Sub-systems

The sub-system of the system is the Very-High-Frequency (VHF) system (Ref. 23-11-00).

C. VHF system

  1. The VHF system gives short-range voice communications with ground stations and other aircraft.
  2. The primary components of the system are:
    • Two Integrated Communications Unit (Comms Units)
    • Two antennas.
  3. The Comms Units change audio input signals and transmit them at VHF Radio Frequency (RF). They also change the received VHF RF signals to give an audio output.
  4. The VHF antennas transmit and receive the VHF RF signals.
