A. System FunctionThe airborne communications, addressing and reporting system (ACARS) is a digital data system that provides two-way communication between an aircraft and a ground station.
B. System ComponentsThe primary components of the system are the:
- ACARS computer (Ref. Fig. 1)
- Configuration module (Ref. Fig. 1)
- Printer (Ref. Fig. 2)
- Toggle switch (Ref. Fig. 3)
- Co-ax relay (Ref. Fig. 3)
- Door warning logic relay (Ref. Fig. 2)
C. System Operation (Ref. Fig. 4)
The system contains an integral VHF receiver/ transmitter that permits information to be downloaded to a ground station or uploaded to aircraft from a ground station. The system is integrated with the Flight management System (FMS) and the No. 2 police radio VHF antenna
A printer is installed to allow system data to be printed out.
