A. System Function

The airborne communications, addressing and reporting system (ACARS) is a digital data system that provides two-way communication between an aircraft and a ground station.

B. System Components

The primary components of the system are the:

  • ACARS computer (Ref. Fig. 1)
  • Configuration module (Ref. Fig. 1)
  • Printer (Ref. Fig. 2)
  • Toggle switch (Ref. Fig. 3)
  • Co-ax relay (Ref. Fig. 3)
  • Door warning logic relay (Ref. Fig. 2)

C. System Operation (Ref. Fig. 4)

The system contains an integral VHF receiver/ transmitter that permits information to be downloaded to a ground station or uploaded to aircraft from a ground station. The system is integrated with the Flight management System (FMS) and the No. 2 police radio VHF antenna

A printer is installed to allow system data to be printed out.
