A. System Functions

The fire protection system (the system) gives a warning to the flight crew when there is:
  • A fire in the power plant
  • An overheat in the area around the power plant
  • Smoke in the baggage bays
  • Smoke in the toilet
  • A fault in the engine fire-detection system
  • A fault in the overheat detection system
  • A leak in the Environmental Control System (ECS) bleed supply-duct on the front spar of the wing
  • A leak in the ECS bleed supply-duct in the ECS bay
The system also lets the flight crew extinguish fires which occur in the engine, the nacelles or the pressurized cabin.

B. Sub-systems

The sub-systems of the system are the:
  • Engine fire and overheat detection sub-system (Ref. 26-11-00)
  • Smoke detection sub-system (Ref. 26-12-00)
  • ECS bleed-duct leak-warning sub-system (Ref. 26-13-00)
  • Engine and nacelle fire-extinguisher
  • Portable fire-extinguisher sub-system (Ref. 26-25-00)
