27-10-00  AILERON AND TAB CONTROL SYSTEM Back

A. System Function

The aileron and tab control system controls the aircraft around the longitudinal (Roll) axis.

B. System Components

The primary components (Ref. Fig. 1 thru Fig. 10) of the system are the:
  • Aileron controls in the control column
  • Decoupling control
  • Aileron interconnect-strut and axial-release mechanism
  • Aileron quadrants at stn 107.65
  • Aileron controls on the wing rear spar
  • Cable system
  • Aileron control surface (Ref. 57-60-00)

C. System Operation (Ref. Fig. 11 and Fig. 12)

Each aileron has an independent control system. The two systems are usually connected with the aileron interconnect strut. Movement of the control wheel on the control column is transmitted with the cable system, the push rods and the quadrants to the aileron input levers. The input levers move the ailerons in opposite directions (when the left aileron moves up the right aileron moves down). If one of the systems becomes locked, the decoupling release mechanism disconnects the locked aileron from the serviceable one. A microswitch, in the decoupling control, gives a warning to show that the controls are disconnected.
