A. System FunctionThe rudder tab system gives aircraft trim around the normal (yaw) axis. The tab system also gives aerodynamic help to decrease the loads on the rudder control system.
B. System ComponentsThe primary components (Ref. Fig. 1 thru Fig. 7) of the rudder tab system are the:
- Rudder trim controls in the pedestal
- Screwjack
- Drive lever assembly
- Tab (Ref. 55-40-00)
- Cable system (Ref. 27-00-00)
C. System Operation (Ref. Fig. 8 and Fig. 9)
Movement of the trim control wheel is transmitted through the cable system to the screwjack. The screwjack changes the low input force into a high output force to move the rudder tab. The aerodynamics loads on the tab move the rudder. When the rudder control system moves the rudder, the tab moves in the opposite sense. This gives an aerodynamic help to decrease the loads on the rudder control system.
