27-30-00  ELEVATOR AND TAB SYSTEM Back

A. System Function

The elevator and tab control system (the system) controls the aircraft around the lateral (pitch) axis.

B. System Components

The primary components (Ref. Fig. 1 thru Fig. 11) of the system are the:
  • Control columns
  • Pushrods
  • Elevator torque shaft
  • Elevator disconnect unit
  • Disconnect control
  • Cable tension regulators
  • Elevator drive quadrants
  • Elevator final drive
  • Cable system
  • Elevator drive levers
  • Elevator control surfaces

C. System Operation (Ref. Fig. 12 and Fig. 13)

Each elevator has two control circuits which can operate independently. During satisfactory operation, a clutch in the elevator torque shaft connects the two circuits. When the control columns move, the pushrods, the cable system and elevator final drive transmit the movement to the elevator drive levers (and to the elevator control surfaces).
