27-60-00  SPOILER SYSTEM Back

A. System Function

The spoilers decrease wing lift during deceleration when the aircraft makes a landing. The spoiler system (the system) controls the spoilers and gives indications and warnings of spoiler position to the flight crew.

B. System Components

The primary components (Ref. Fig. 1 thru Fig. 5) of the spoiler system are the:
  • Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU)
  • Spoiler actuators
  • Spoiler control surfaces (Ref. 57-70-00)

C. System Operation

The HCU controls the direction of flow of the hydraulic fluid to extend or retract the spoiler actuators. Relay control the operation of the HCU to make sure the spoilers can only extend when all of these conditions occur:
  • The spoiler control switch is set to ARM
  • The left or the right AOC-switch is in the ground position
  • The POWER levers are set below FLIGHT IDLE
