30-11-00  WING AND STABILIZER DE-ICE Back

A. System Function

The wing and stabilizer de-ice system removes ice which has collected on the leading edges of the wings and stabilizers.
B. System Components(Ref. Fig. 1 thru Fig. 3)

The primary components of the system are:
  • Two pressure regulating valves
  • Two dirt separators
  • Two check valves
  • A pressure relief valves
  • Three ejector flow-control valves
  • Eleven de-icer boots
  • The airframe de-ice timer
  • Four control switches
  • Four pressure switches
  • Four indicators
  • Three relays

C. System Operation

A controlled supply of air (from the engine high-pressure compressors) inflates the de-icers boots on the leading edges of the wings and the stabilizers. If there is ice on the leading edges, the ice breaks when the pneumatic rubber boots inflate. The flow of air on the wings and the stabilizers then removes the pieces of ice.
