32-00-00  LANDING GEAR Back

A. System Function
  1. The Main Landing Gear (MLG) and the Nose Landing Gear (NLG) give support to the aircraft on the ground. They also absorb the vertical forces during movement of the aircraft on the ground. The MLG and the NLG doors give an aerodynamic shape to the landing gear bays. The extension and retraction sub-system extends and retracts the landing gear.
  2. The wheels and brakes sub-system lets the aircraft move when it is on the ground. It also decrease the speed of the aircraft during movement on the ground. The steering sub-system changes the able of the nose wheels on the ground to let the flight crew control the direction of the aircraft. The position and warning system gives indications to the flight crew of the position of the landing gear.

B. Sub-systems

The sub-systems of the system are the:
  • MLG and doors (Ref. 32-10-00)
  • NLG and doors (Ref. 32-20-00)
  • Extension and retraction sub-system (Ref. 32-30-00)
  • Wheels and brakes sub-system (Ref. 32-40-00)
  • Steering sub-system (Ref. 32-50-00)
  • Position and warning sub-system (Ref. 32-61-00)
