A. System Function

The Main Landing Gear (MLG) has these functions:
  • It gives support to the aircraft when it is on the ground
  • It absorbs the vertical forces during an aircraft landing

B. System Components(Ref. Fig. 1)

The primary components of the system are the:
  • MLG shock strut
  • MLG drag brace
  • MLG door operating linkage
  • MLG doors (Ref. 52-00-00)

C. System Operation (Ref. Fig. 2)

The strut absorbs the vertical loads on the aircraft during taxi, take-off and landing operations. The linkage opens and closes the MLG doors when the MLG extends or retracts.
