32-50-00  STEERING Back

A. System Function

The steering system changes the angle of the nose landing gear (NLG) wheels, in relation to the aircraft centerline. This lets the crew control the direction of the movement of the aircraft on the ground.

B. System Components

The primary components of the system are the:
  • Steering control
  • Steering isolation valve
  • Steering selector valve
  • Steering actuator
  • Feedback mechanism
  • Relay-valve

C. System Operation (Ref. Fig. 1)

The steering selector valve uses hydraulic fluid to operate the steering actuator, which turns the NLG wheels. The feedback mechanism transmits the angle of the NLG wheels to the steering selector valve. The steering isolation valve prevents movement of the steering, when the landing gear is extended while the aircraft is in flight.
