A. System Function

The functions of the exterior lighting system are to:
  • Show the position of the aircraft
  • Give lighting of the runway or the taxiway
  • Give lighting to let the flight crew see if there is ice on the leading edges of the wings

B. System Components

The system has these sub-systems:
  • Navigation lights (Ref. 33-41-00)
  • Anti-collision lights (Ref. 33-42-00)
  • Landing and taxi lights (Ref. 33-43-00)
  • Ice-observation lights (Ref. 33-44-00)
  • Tail flood lights (Ref. 33-45-00)
  • Conspicuity lights (Ref. 33-46-00)

C. System Operation

A 28 V dc supply goes through the switches (Ref. Fig. 1) to the ice observation, the landing and the taxi lights, the tail flood lights, and the navigation and the conspicuity lights. The lights then come on.
