A. System FunctionThe navigation system calculates and shows data about the aircraft:
- Position
- Direction
- Attitude
- Airspeed
- Vertical speed
- Altitude
- Air temperature
- Flight-guidance commands
B. Sub-systems (Ref. Fig. 1)(1) Flight environment data (Ref. 34-10-00) system uses the air around the aircraft to calculate speed and altitude data.
(2) Attitude and Direction (Ref. 34-20-00) system calculates and shows data about the attitude and direction of the aircraft.
(3) Landing and Taxiing Aids (Ref. 34-30-00) system gives signals to the crew to help in the landing of aircraft.
(4) Independent position determining (Ref. 34-40-00) system shows areas of bad weather in front of the aircraft. It also accurately measures the height of the aircraft above the ground.
(5) Dependent position determining (Ref. 34-50-00) system:
- Finds the direction (relative bearing) of set ground station
- Calculates how far the set ground station is from the aircraft
- Permits air-traffic-control to identify the aircraft
- Supplies flight guidance commands to navigate the aircraft point-to-point
