34-12-00  AIR DATA SYSTEM Back

A. System Function

The Air Data System (ADS) gives the primary functions related to the airspeed and the altitude of the aircraft. The altimeters (Ref. 34-13-00) show the altitude and the Electronic Flight-Instrument System (EFIS) (Ref. 34-26-00) shows the airspeed.

B. System Components (Ref. Fig. 1 thru Fig. 3)

(1) There are two air data sub-systems, the No.1 and the No.2 ADS.

(2) The primary components of the ADS are the:
  • Two Digital Air-Data Computers (DADC)
  • True Airspeed (TAS) temperature indicator (No.1 ADS only)
  • Total Air-Temperature (TAT) probe

C. System Operation

The ADS gets an input of the pitot pressure and the static pressure from the pitot/static system (Ref. 34-17-00). It uses these inputs, together with an input of the TAT, to calculate the airspeed and the altitude.
