34-22-00  FLIGHT DIRECTOR Back

A. System Function

The Flight Director (FD) supplies the necessary flight guidance commands to let the flight crew fly the aircraft to a set flight path.

B. System Components

The primary components of the system are the:
  • Flight Control Computer (FCC) (Ref. Fig. 1)
  • Flight Director/Autopilot (FD/AP) mode selector (Ref. Fig. 1 and Fig. 2)

C. System Operation

The FCC gets inputs from the navigation systems. It uses these inputs to calculate the lateral and the vertical commands for the autopilot and the FD. The autopilot uses these commands to fly the aircraft to a set flight path. The FD shown on the Electronic Flight Instrument system (EFIS) (Ref. 34-26-00) moves in relation to these commands.
