34-25-00  ATTITUDE AND HEADING REFERENCE SYSTEM Back

A. System Function

The Attitude and Heading Reference System (AHRS) gives the data about the heading and the attitude of the aircraft.

B. System Components

(1) There are two AHRS sub-systems, the No.1 and the No.2 AHRS.

(2) The primary components of each AHRS are:
  • An Attitude and Heading Reference Unit (AHRU) (Ref. Fig. 1)
  • A flux Valve (Ref. Fig. 1)
  • An AHRS controller (Ref. Fig. 2)

C. System Operation

The data about the magnetic field of the earth from the flux valve, together with attitude data about the aircraft from the AHRU, gives the:
  • Movement of the aircraft around its longitudinal axis (roll)
  • Movement of the aircraft around its lateral axis (pitch)
  • Movement of the aircraft around its axis vertical (yaw)
  • Magnetic heading of the aircraft
