A. System Function
The independent position determining system shows area of bad weather in front of the aircraft. It also accurately measures the height of the aircraft above the ground.
B. Sub-systems
(1) The weather radar system gives data on the weather in front of the aircraft.
(2) The radio altimeter system accurately measures the distance that the aircraft is above the ground. The system operates in the range 0 to 2500 feets.
