A. System FunctionThe weather radar system gives the flight crew an indication of the weather conditions in fornt of the aircraft, the system also has a fround mapping mode which can be used as an aid to navigation.
B. System Components (Ref. Fig. 1)The primary components of the system are the:
- Receiver/Transmitter/Antenna (RTA) unit
- Weather radar controller
C. System OperationThe system transmits Radio Frequency (RF) pulses in a forward direction. It receivers the reflected RF pulses from the weather conditions (rainfall targets) and displays them on the Electronic Flgiht Instrument System (EFIS) (Ref. 34-26-00). The display can show the weather conditions up to a distance of 300 nautical miles and 60 degress left and right of the aircraft heading.
