A. System Function

The Ground Proximity Warning System (GPWS) gives audio and visual warnings to tell the flight crew of low altitude or fast descent rates.

B. System Components

The primary component of the system is the Ground Proximity Warning Computer (GPWS).

C. System Opeation

The GWPS uses airspeed, vertical speed, glideslope deviation, roll attitude, landing gear configuation and flap configuartion data to calculate the warnings. The visual warnings are sent to the central Annunicator System (CAS) and the audio warnings are sent to the Audio Integrating System (AIS) (Ref. Fig. 23-51-00).
