34-53-00  AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL SYSTEM Back

A. System Function

The Air traffic Control (ATC) system sends the altitude and the identification data about the aircraft, to an ATC ground station.

B. System Components

There are two ATC sub-systems. The No.1 ATC system and the No.2 ATC system.

The primary components (Ref. Fig. 1) of each ATC system are:
  • An integrated communication unit (Comms Unit)
  • An ATC antenna

C. System Operation

The ground part of the ATC system transmits a coded interrogation signal to the aircraft. The airborne ATC transponder receives the interrogation signals, decodes it and transmits the applicable coded reply signal. The coded reply signal contains the aircraft identification and altitude data.
