The ignition unit is a two-channel, low energy, capacitive-discharge type, capable of continuous operation.

A speed sensing switch in the IEC controls the ignition unit during the engine start. Electrical energy is sent to the two igniter plugs to ignite the fuel-air mixture.

A switch in the cockpit permits the pilot to select continuous ignition operation when the engine is being operated in conditions where ice can collect.
