The primary function of the emergency shutdown system is to stop the engines in an emergency.

The primary components of the system are the:
Condition levers
Latch release push-buttons
Micro-switches
System Operation
The latch release push-buttons and movement of the condition levers operate the system. Each latch release push-button lifts a lever arm to let the relevant condition lever move fully aft. This rearward movement of the condition lever is also transmitted to the micro-switch and cam box assembly. The system uses the condition lever cable-system to operate levers on the engine Fuel Control Unit (FCU) and the propeller governor.
