A. System Function
The function of the oil indicating system is to give indication of the oil temperature, a high oil temperature, the oil pressure, a low oil pressure, oil contamination and a blocked filter
The system also sends a signal of low oil temperature to the scavenge de-oil valves during an engine start in cold conditions (Ref. 80-10-00).
System Operation
- The oil temperature bulb (Ref. Fig. 1) measures the temperature of the oil between the oil cooler and the filter.
- The magnetic chip detector (Ref. Fig. 1) is installed in the gearbox scavenge return-line. The chip detector collects ferromagnetic particles in the scavenge oil which goes back to the oil tank. When there are sufficient particles to make a ground circuit, an oil contamination signal is sent to the central Annunciator Panel (CAP).
- The de-oil solenoid oil-temperature switch (Ref. Fig. 1) operates when the oil temperature is less than 3oC. It sends a signal to open the gearbox scavenge-pump de-oil valves during engine start (to decrease the load on the gearbox) (Ref. 80-10-00).
- The oil-filter by-pass indicator valve (Ref. Fig. 1) gives a warning that the oil filter is near to a by-pass condition. As the filter element becomes more clogged, the valve opens to give a flow of oil around the filter.
- The oil pressure transducer (Ref. Fig. 1) measures the oil pressure downstream of the pressure pump and regulator valve. It sends a signal to the OIL PSI display of the triple gage indicator.
